Norman Lees BSc, CEng, FIOM, MIEE
Manufacturing
Norman Lees has a wealth of experience in the manufacturing sector. In the late '80s and early '90s, whilst working for BNFL Fuel Division near Preston, Lancs. a site with 4000 employees, he was the Production and Quality Departments' representative on the team that managed the implementation of an MRPII system for the division. The implementation was externally accredited as Class A within 18 months. He then went on to lead the introduction of lean manufacturing techniques in the production areas, slashing lead times and improving first time quality.
Over recent years Norman has worked with a wide variety of businesses including manufacturers of ice cream, ready meals, gift wrapping paper, precision ceramics, Airbus, the Hong Kong Harbour Bridge, Euro Bank Notes, Specialist Rubbers (Germany) and Automotive Components (USA).
These valuable business experiences along with the fact that Norman is a top class educational expert forms the backbone of this division of Durham Logistics College.
Richard Hewlett
Transport Training and Education Division
Richard Hewlett has spent nearly twenty years developing and practicing his managerial skills mainly within the supply chain arena of business operations.
He has a wealth of experience and significant achievements working for some of the worlds largest organisations including International Paper and Pactiv. He has experience of shipping and manufacturing. He also has vast experience in project management work involving many UK high-street names such as Asda, Iceland, Homebase and Coop.
His specific areas of expertise are purchasing, transport and storage and logistics related. He has been responsible for managing the movements of both bulk liquids and dry goods around the world and has managed their external storage requirements.
Richard has been a member of the team delivering CILT (UK) qualification courses and delivering short, sharp productivity and management courses for DLC since 2002.
